CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the course of their efforts to provide integrated behavioral healthcare for adults and children, Freedom House Recovery Center and Insight Human Services will combine organizations effective September 21, 2017.

This partnership furthers both organizations’ longstanding missions to meet the behavioral health needs of those suffering with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use issues.

Together, Freedom House and Insight will provide complementary programs and services across the communities they serve. They will continue to strengthen access to evidence-based practices and a person-centered approach.

“Since Freedom House began in 1974, we have been driven to meet the ever-changing needs of individuals with substance use disorders and mental illness. This determination has allowed us to grow from a single halfway house and social setting detox center to a comprehensive behavioral healthcare provider. Freedom House now meets the needs of thousands of children and adults. Our dedication to providing the highest level of compassionate, patient-focused care has been our guiding principle. This next step with Insight will create a stronger network and help more people along the path of transformational recovery,” says Patricia “Trish” Hussey, Executive Director of Freedom House.

After serving North Carolinians for 35 years in behavioral health, 24 of which were at Freedom House Recovery Center, Hussey will retire in 2018. In the interim she will work closely with Jeff Matkins, who will be Chief Executive of the merged organizations.

Matkins echoes Hussey’s sentiments saying, “Our partnership is committed to the communities that we serve. Together, we will continue to offer high quality care. Trish’s dedication has set an outstanding example for more than three decades, and we will continuously strive to build on such an excellent foundation.”

Services offered will include, but may not be limited to: detoxification, mobile crisis management, facility-based crisis services, short and long-term residential treatment, halfway houses, outpatient treatment, cognitive behavioral intervention, offender care management, psychiatric evaluations, medication assisted therapy, medication management, integrated primary healthcare, men’s and women’s programs, adolescent-specific care, prevention services, mental health services in schools, and an array of community-based interventions.

The new organization will continue to reflect the shared values of collaboration, integrity, stability, and quality. The mission will be to respect and recognize the individuality of each person served while providing quality care so clients can lead a rich, full life.
